Understanding the Grading System
The grading system is a process that institutions use to calculate a student’s overall academic performance. It assigns scores to a student’s work based on certain criteria, reflecting their knowledge and skills in a particular course or subject. In the world, different types of grading systems are used, but yes, some of them are the most widely used:
1: Percentage-based grading system.
In this grading system, a student’s overall academic performance is calculated based on the percentage of correct answers from the total. And yes, if someone correctly answers 70% of the questions, their grade will also be 70%.
2: Point-based grading system:
In a point-based grading system, a student’s performance is assessed based on a point scale. Its measurement is graded on a scale of 0 to 100 and 0 to 10. And then the students’ performance is converted into percentage.
3: Pass/fail system:
This is a straightforward system where a student’s performance is assessed based on pass or fail. No percentage, letters, or grades are assigned for their performance.
4: CGPA-based system:
One of my favorite systems. percentage to CGPA means cumulative grade point average. Its calculation involves taking all the grade points of all courses/semesters and then dividing them by the total number of courses.
5: Letter-based grading system:
Letter grades in this system are assigned to represent a student’s academic performance. For example, in India and the US, A, B, C, D, and F are the most common letter grades. Every letter grade depends on a specific range of numbers or percentage.
